So... if there was a 3.5 stars, I probably would have selected that score for my overall rating.I'm still trying to determine how I feel about this LEGO train set, so I may revisit this review in the future after I've had more time to use and evaluate the overall set.A few positives to get this review started:- It's a LEGO train... which means you're all but guaranteed to have fun and the young bricker in your house will love it. I mean, seriously, how can you go wrong with a LEGO train that functions and operates?- The train itself looks great... the dark blue coloring with yellow really pops and is a significant improvement over the previous passenger train.- The new train system has two different options for operation... you can operate the train with the remote that comes with the set, or you can download the 'Powered Up' app by LEGO for free to control the train via your mobile device. When you download the app and operate the train via your phone/device, you get a series of sounds that you can use via your phone's speakers while operating the train. The process of downloading the app and connecting the train via bluetooth to your phone/device was fairly easy and didn't take much time.- The new 'Powered Up' app leaves a lot of growth potential for the future and I can only imagine what LEGO comes up with for increased playability and functionality in the future.A few areas of consideration:- The cost for a set this size is a touch high in my opinion... there are lots of larger LEGO pieces and train functions which command a higher price, but the amount of track you receive and the overall piece count are on the lower end.- The detail on the inside of the train (in all three sections) is rather limited and underwhelming. Sure, if more would have been included, the price may have gone even higher, but be forewarned, there's not a lot happening on the inside.- The amount of track gives you a basic circle... once again, I know it would probably increase the price, but more track would have been a nice touch.- The new bluetooth system for controlling the train is much different than previous systems for train operation. If you are accustomed to using the previous system, you'll find the new system much different and thus far, I would say more cumbersome and less user-friendly. The remote control feature takes a few seconds to actually connect to the train before use. Batteries... you'll need 10 AAA batteries to get this train going (better start stocking up on batteries now).- The 'Powered Up' app seems to work well, but I'm somewhat disappointed in how quickly it loses the connection if you stop using the train for a few minutes. I'm also concerned that the speed of the train seems to function differently from the app on your phone/device than it does via the remote control. This may be something I'm doing incorrectly on my end, but there seems to be something off. The sound functions that are available via the app are a great addition and without a doubt increase the level of fun and playability with this set. I can only hope there will be added features in the future as LEGO expands the possibilities via the Powered Up app.- The small train station is really underwhelming and adds a small amount of additional playability.Overall, I like this set, but I'm still on the fence with exactly how much I like this set. It's good, but it's not amazing. Now, perhaps after more use I will come around and my enthusiasm toward the set will increase, but right now, I have a slight hesitation and skepticism.Would I make this purchase again... yes, however, I'd probably look for a reduced price and I would measure my excitement if I'm familiar with the previous LEGO train systems. If this is your first LEGO train set, then I have no doubt you'll be pleased and excited.Hopefully you found this review helpful. If so, please let me know below. If you have any questions, don't hesitate. Also, be sure to check out my other LEGO reviews.Happy bricking!

TRAIN! It's a Lego train, and if you like Legos, and/or trains, this is fun. It was fairly easy to build. Says 6+, a 6 or 7 year old may need a hand, but I can still see them able to do it with limited help. The instructions are very easy to follow, and the bags of pieces numbered. Each page only adds a few pieces, and uses clear pictures to guide you step by step.

The motors have a good amount of power, and 10 settings for power/speed. If you crank it to 10, it is fast enough to derail itself around a bend, so I'm happy with the way these perform.

While I do think Legos are pricey, they do make top quality products, and their customer support has been fantastic for as long as I can remember. Very very rarely have I ever had any missing or broken pieces, and they've never given me hassle when I brought an issue to them.

If you watched the video, you'll notice I bought 2, and combined them. Neither set was missing a single piece, and as usual, had some extras. It is possible, and easy, to sync multiple "engines" to a single remote.

My son waited for 2 years for this train ( to be 6) and he was over the moon to get it for his birthday. The train took 2 adults and a 6 year old a couple hours to fully put together. The train speeds are ridiculously fast, as in I don't see why anyone would need a lego train to go that fast. If you speed it up too much the train will fly off the tracks, but if you stay at a normal speed it stays on the track well. It does require an insane amount of AAA batteries (10 total, 6 for the train alone). We have already had to replace the batteries twice in a matter of 2 weeks. I would suggest investing in rechargeable batteries to save money. The price of this train is also very good ( or it was when we bought it for under $150). Our 4 year old is also obsessed with the train and its simplicity to put on tracks and drive.

This is one of my favorite LEGO sets I can think of! The train took a ‘whopping’ hour and a half to assemble, and I took some time to arrange the tracks...so about two hours to set up. Remember, you need a lot of AAA batteries for this set, so keep this in mind when building it. I’m surprised that I haven’t had to refill the batteries yet 🤷‍♀️. The train itself has a pretty sleek and modern design that makes it way cooler than all of the trains I’ve ever seen in real life. It’s more like a high speed monorail, to be honest. The mini figures included were the only thing I didn’t like about it. They were just...average. I don’t think there were any new pieces, nor rare ones, as far as the minifigures. But, overall, this set was great.

This is a good Lego train set, but I don't think it's worth $150. I guess the expense is in the motor and remote control and that you can control the train via an app. But that still seems like a steep price. For that amount of money, it should come with more track. It's just a small oval. But my kids like it and play with it regularly. I guess it also makes a good base for a Lego city as you can create buildings all around the track.

I purchased the Lego Passenger Train as a gift for my 11 year old grandson who has wanted it for a long time. The price on Amazon was much lower than other retailers so this was a plus. Since putting it together we have purchased additional track pieces as it comes with just enough to make an oval and that gets boring quick. I was surprised at the actual size of the train cars...they are not small at all! We also added a light kit that was purchased separately. I think this is a great piece for the Lego kids that have everything and want something different. It is very durable when assembled, haven't lost any pieces yet!

Our son LOVES trains, and we bought him a high speed LEGO passenger train for his birthday last year, but he's autistic and has no patience for assembly or for when pieces fall off or it derails from the tracks (which it did quite a bit when he would run it too fast). In a fit of frustration he threw it against a wall, it shattered and lots of pieces were lost. He really wanted another one for Christmas, so I bought this one and pre-assembled it with super glue, gluing each piece down as I built it. He was super stoked on Christmas morning to have a fully assembled train, ready to run and play with! It works great! For some reason this one derails a LOT less than the last one. Maybe they've put a better speed governor on the remote so it can handle turns at top speed. I don't know but I'm thrilled. The remote paired with the train very easily and there are lots of cute and fun details that my son loves, especially in the dining car. He really likes to use the LEGO play app on his iPad to control it because it opens up all sorts of additional features like sounds. That being said, pairing the train with the app can be finicky. We could only get it to work by taking the remote it comes with out of range. There is no way to switch off the remote so you can use the app. You'd have to unscrew the back and take the batteries out. If there is a better/easier way to pair the train with the app so you can control it that way, there were absolutely no instructions on how to do it included. Otherwise the app is very intuitive and simple to use. All in all we really love this train! It works great, has lots of great detail, wasn't too difficult to put together and runs reliably and well. We love that it came with both the remote and app access unlike some other LEGO trains that you can only control with the app. He's a happy boy! And yes I paid full price for this train.

I bought this train for my 6 and 4 year old kids. I love Lego since I am a kid. The train is great. The train station is just basic but does the impression. Unfortunately the tracks they supply with the train are just a small circle. I recommend to buy a extra set of tracks with the train. My kids started to fill the inside of the circle with other Lego sets they got. They seem to like a open wagon concept better since it is easier for them to put other lego figures on and off the wagon. Remote control is wireless which is nice. All in all awesome but the kids might need to be just a bit older to use the train as intended. It does foster there imagination to make it work for them though.
